I had paint protection installed on my last Model 3 at a local shop. It wasn't cheap, but and my trade-in value was higher. The install was not perfect, but it did protect the paint. Doing this again on my new Model Y made sense. but this time I wanted to do it myself. It came pre-cut, so it was much easier. Definitely worth it for the resale value alone.
I’m not usually the DIY type, but I really wanted to have the matte look on my model Y. It wasn't quick - took me the entire weekend and it was at times frustrating, but I am glad I did it. The car looks super nice and doesn't look very dirty even when it is. Honestly, it turned out way better than I expected.
I asked in a wrap shop and they wanted over $3,500 for PPF install. I decided to give it a try with my husband and we installed this pre-cut kit. I’m happy we did. The pre-cut pieces actually fit my Model Y well. It is far from perfect, but it looks much better than before. The gloss version looks like factory paint, but more premium! It's good value for money.
Three days after installing this, a semi kicked up a rock on a motorway. Heard it smack the hood loud. My heart sank. Got out to check—the film took the hit, scuffed a little, but the paint underneath was perfect. Heated it up with a hair dryer and the scuff mostly vanished. This stuff already paid for itself.
Yeah, I laughed at the name Tesla Condom, but protection is needed, right :) My wife rolled her eyes when the package arrived. But the film was actually legit high quality. Thick, cuts were precise, and it stretches well around corners. Come for the joke, stay for the protection, I guess?
I had a couple questions before ordering (mostly about trimming) and support replied pretty quickly. Shipping was fairly fast too. Install wasn’t perfect on my first attempt, but once I got the hang of it, the pieces lined up nicely.
